Claude in Microsoft Foundry

Foundry is the Azure route, and it belongs in a different category from Bedrock and Google Cloud despite looking similar from the outside.

It is Anthropic-operated

Bedrock and Google Cloud are partner-operated: the partner sets retirement dates and quotas. Foundry is Anthropic-operated and follows Anthropic’s own deprecation schedule — the same dates as the first-party Claude API.

Practically: one calendar instead of two.

Billing is in CCUs

Your Azure bill shows a single Claude Consumption Unit line item rather than token counts.

100 CCU = $1.00 of fees at the applicable prices, after discounts. The unit exists for marketplace invoicing, not as a separate currency you buy.

Cost visibility is thinner here. Azure Cost Management shows aggregated CCUs. On Claude Platform on AWS, the Claude Console provides a real-time per-model breakdown; Foundry’s documentation does not describe an equivalent.

Data residency

Deployments can use the US Data Zone Standard deployment type to keep inference in the United States — equivalent to inference_geo: "us" on the Claude API, and carrying the same 1.1x multiplier on all token pricing categories.
