Claude in Chrome
A browser extension that lets Claude see and act in a Chrome tab, used both as an assistant surface and by Claude Code for debugging live web applications.
Last verified August 21, 2026 · 2 sources
Claude in Chrome puts Claude inside the browser, where it can read the page you are on and act in it.
It shows up in two distinct roles, which is why people describe it two different ways:
- As an assistant surface — Claude working alongside you on whatever is in the tab.
- As a Claude Code capability — the documented answer to “I want to debug a live web application,” where the browser becomes a tool the coding agent drives.
Why the distinction matters
A browser extension that can read pages and act on your behalf sits in the same risk category as computer use: it operates on whatever is authenticated in your session. Prompt injection from page content is the relevant threat — a hostile page can contain text aimed at the agent rather than at you.
Treat it as you would any automation with access to your logged-in browser, and prefer a dedicated profile for anything sensitive.
